2nd APJ Abdul Kalam (Scientist who worked selflessly for the People)
Climbing to the top demands strength, whether it is to the top of Mount Everest or to the top of your career.
These are the words of Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. Born into a rural Muslim family in the outskirts of Rameswaram at Pamban Island. Interestingly Abdul Kalam’s father was an imam of a local mosque and he used to interact a lot with Hindu pilgrims and Hindu sages. This actually gave Abdul Kalam a different view on religion and on life. He had faced many struggles in his childhood and early education, he took 9th rank in the IAF exam but could not qualify as there were only 8 positions available. That did not demotivate him as he went on to join DRDO – research centre for Aeronautics.
His career as a scientist in the field of Aeronautics was remarkable and appreciated by everyone. After working with Vikram Sarabhai, he went on to work in the successful launch of SLV which launched Rohini satellite into the orbit. He was also instrumental in developing the PSLV successfully. This is the few great things he had done as a scientist. Kalam would be permanently remembered for his contribution in Pokhran II Nuclear tests in 1998, where India becomes the 3rd country in the World to test a Hydrogen bomb.
The entire credit of that goes to Kalam. Kalam also served as India’s 11th President of India when he won the 2002 election. He was fantastic during his term as President of India and was getting a lot of applause. But due to lack of majority, he did not contest for the second term. This was the beginning of the next phase of his life where he consistently worked for the welfare of the next generations. His writings and novels inspired millions of people all over the world. That’s the story of APJ Abdul Kalam. His life came to an end when he was delivering the lecture in IIM Shillong. And thus the greatest modern teacher in the world after spreading a lot of knowledge and wisdom. His excellency in the field of research and welfare earned him Bharat Ratna!
3rd Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata: Youngest Chairman of Tata Sons
JRD Tata was India’s greatest business leaders. He was born to then big businessman Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and Suzzane. JRD Tata actually is a French-born and was in European countries till his education. As a citizen of France, he was also into the Army of France for a period of one year. It was in his 20’s he came to India to take care of Tata’s business as his father fell ill. That was a life turning event for him.
JRD Tata is also the first-ever Indian to obtain a pilot license in India. His closeness and love for aviation made him to start first-ever commercial airlines in India named as Tata Airlines. This was the beginning of his Business era. He after listening to Jawaharlal Nehru decided to take India’s growth on his shoulders and gave away airlines business to Indian govt. That was the next big step in his life as his hunger for starting new businesses and creating employment opportunities for Indians went on and on. Like this, he started numerous companies and also institutions.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research are the biggest institutes in India producing the best research people. He started numerous companies like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Titan Industries etc., now the Tata sons consists of 75 companies. He is also the leader who brought the change in the calculation of working hours of employees. He said that the work hours start from the time a person leaves his home and ends when he reaches back home. Whatever happens to him in between is the complete responsibility of the company. Like this, he had taken a lot of initiatives for human development and he is also the eminent personalities to receive India’s highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna.
4th Lata Mangeshkar: ‘Nightingale of India’
What we know about the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar is absolutely nothing. She is known to us for her excellence in singing thousands of songs, which won her innumerable awards and rewards. Film fares, National awards, Dada Saheb Phalke award and last but not the least India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’. She was introduced to music by her father in her early days itself. She was only 5 when she started participating in the plays organized by her father. She was only 13 years when her father died due to heart disease.
She didn’t lose her confidence and she knew that being the elder, she has to do something to run the family. Using her father contacts she then started singing in a movie company. She was going through tough times on one side and on the other side she kept her siblings future safe by getting them educated. She kept herself strong and ruled the world of music for over 6 decades.
It was only her sister Asha Bhosle who would take the songs if not her. Lata Mangeshkar was prominently used for all kind of songs representing heroines whereas Asha Bhosle was singing the songs of new heroines or the vamps of those times like Helen. 5th Narendra Damodardas Modi: One who brought India back on growth path!
Narendra Modi born to a Gujarati family in Vadnagar was a tea seller and an RSS activist from as early as 8 years old. Modi wanted to live a very different life from others but due to unavoidable reasons, he gets married to Jashodaben when he is only 14 years old. He then ran away from home and wanted to pursue what he actually wanted to and that is to take the spiritual path.
Thus he travelled to various religious places in the Country and tried to get himself accepted, but all went in vain as his looks and language didn’t allow him to impress. After trying hard and not succeeding to follow the path of his spiritual idol Vivekananda, he returned back to Gujarat at the age of 20 and moved to Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad is the place which actually brought a lot of changes in his life. He went on to become fulltime member of RSS. His hard work at RSS during emergency time paid off very well and he was invited by none other than LK Advani to join BJP when it was formed in 1980. After that, there was no looking back. He was instrumental in planning the rath yatra of Advani in 1990 and also strategized the victories of BJP in Gujarat in 1995 and in the Parliamentary elections in 1999.
As a reward, he was appointed as a minister in Keshubhai Patel’s cabinet. During the deadliest earthquake in the year 2001, Keshubhai Patel was questioned for his poor management and was losing the public image. Then came the first big moment in the life of Modi when he became the Chief Minister in the year 2001. 2002 is another year which turned out to be a tragic episode which India and Gujarat will not forget.
Modi was blamed by media and opposition, but his resignation led to early elections which proved the power of Modi and he won maximum seats for BJP ever in Gujarat. Since then there is no stopping Gujarat and BJP. His impressive performances have made him the top choice for Prime Ministerial candidate.
We all know what has happened since 2014 as he took oath as India’s 14th Prime Minister and India is growing real quick! Our PM is my 5th Top Indian!
