Happy Diwali India!

This Tuesday’s post of mine is on Diwali, the festival of happiness!

Diwali as it is called in North and Deepavali in South is the festival of lights. It’s one festival of India that has crossed the boundaries to be celebrated across different countries in the World. White house in Washington DC is lit up with diyas on Diwali!

Diwali – Deepavali!

In the northern parts of India Diwali is celebrated on the occasion of Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya. His exile of fourteen years completed on the day of Diwali. That day being ‘Amavasya’ people of Ayodhya welcomed Lord Rama and Seeta maa lighting Diyas. As per Ramayana this Diwali will be 3307th Diwali.

In Western India especially in Gujarat Diwali is the most famous festival and it is the longest festival celebrated for 5 days and preparations began well over weeks. Gujaratis celebrate Diwali day as their new year. They follow the Vikram Samavat that began in 56BC. They start fresh and create new books of accounts for their business activities. As per Gujaratis this will be 2074th Diwali.

Deep down in the southern part of the country it is celebrated as Naraka Chaturthi marking the death of Narkasura the demon in the hands of Satyabhama. This victory is celebrated as the Festival of Lights. As per Narkasura death this will be 2892nd Diwali.

Diwali to me is the special one and the favorite festival like most of the Indians.

For me Diwali is special because it binds people together and asks us to start everything fresh. Diwali is to light diyas and light up your minds. Celebrate Diwali by killing the inner darkness and the darkness that is surrounding you. That way you are going to make a difference to both you and the nature. Rather we are more into bursting crackers and burning money forgetting the fact that chemical and sound pollution affect both the Animals, Humans and more importantly Mother Nature.

Diwali is the festival of sharing.

Most of the people share sweet memories and sweets all day. My opinion is that people who are capable should share their happiness with the people who cannot celebrate the same in Normal days. Gift them something that they normally don’t get to use or consume. Do that and you will see their faces lit up in joy. Celebrate this Diwali bringing happiness, knowledge and fulfillment in the lives of the people. Lit up a face by gifting something than spending that money in burning crackers. Then you will realise how fulfilling this festival is going to be!

Happy Diwali Everyone!
