Chapter 7 Gnana-Vignana Yoga Sloka 5
Apareyamitastwanyaam prakritim viddhi me paraam; Jeevabhootaam mahaabaaho yayedam dhaaryate jagat.
Etadyoneeni bhootaani sarvaaneetyupadhaaraya; Aham kritsnasya jagatah prabhavah pralayastathaa.
This is the inferior Prakriti, O Arjuna! Know thou as different from it My higher Prakriti, the very life-element by which this world is upheld.
Know that these two (My higher and lower Natures) are the womb of all beings. So, I am the source and dissolution of the whole universe.
After explaining the lower prakrithi of Himself, Lord Krishna in this sloka differentiates it from the higher Prakrithi. He tells Arjuna that whatever He told in the previous sloka is Apara Prakrithi or lower nature of the Lord and it is very different from Higher Prakrithi. Lord Krishna mentions to Arjuna that the secret of the life element is upheld because of the higher prakrithi. Together the lower and higher prakrithi forms the central theme or the womb from where all the living beings emerged. Thus Lord finally concludes that He is the source as well as the end of the Whole Universe.
Extending Interpretation to Mankind’s Life!
The important point to ponder in this sloka is the higher prakrithi of the God. We have known the Lower Prakrithi but we are totally unaware of the higher Prakrithi. Higher Prakrithi of the Lord is nothing but spiritual energy. People who can maintain a certain degree of control on their lower prakrithi can start feeling the higher prakrithi which is nothing but spirituality. This is also called as consciousness. This consciousness of the Lord exist in 3 parts like how the lower prakristhi exists in 8 parts. These 3 parts are self, spirit and spiritual being. One needs to look at them in a deeper way to get an understanding of this.
We all know what is self, its the soul of a person. Spirit is immutable, and it observes, witnesses and supervises the material human body. Spirit is the thin thread that connects the soul and the body. When you are watching a heart touching movie, some people just relax and take it casually, whereas some are deeply moved by it and feels emotional. Why does one feel so emotional? Its the spirt that does the work by linking the self of the individual with the senses. When eye meets the soul through the link of spirt it feels the pain of the soul and it starts to shed tears. When skin meets the soul through the link of spirt it starts to get emotions and goose bumps appears. That’s how spirit connects the material and immaterial parts of the living beings.
The third nature of higher prakrithi is the Supreme spirt. It is the one which is connected to the spirits and souls of the whole universe. Who are soul mates? Those two individuals whose souls are connected are called soulmates. Spirit connects the senses with the soul. But what connects one soul with another soul, where without saying anything one soul understands what the other soul wants! It is nothing but the Supreme spirit. It combines people who are of similar nature and binds them together with a set of spiritual ideas. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and swamy vivekanada were also connected like this by the Supreme spirit.
