Chapter 2, Verse 9 – Samkhya Yoga
“Nainam cchindanti shastraani nainam dahati paavakah;
Na chainam kledayantyaapo na shoshayati maarutah”.
“Weapons cut It not, fire burns It not, water wets It not, wind dries It not”.
In this sloka, Lord Krishna explains the secret of soul. He says that soul is one’s self and that one’s self is something that is partless. The soul is infinite and extremely subtle. Soul is so strong that the sword cannot cut It, fire cannot burn It, wind cannot dry It. Thus Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna the meaning and the secret of soul in this sloka.
Extending Interpretation to Mankind’s Life!
Do this small exercise. Just close your eyes, sit quietly composing your thoughts for a minute and then ask a question to yourself. Who am I? You will get an answer of what you are in this life!
You will say who you are with respect to the position you hold or the name that you have. This is just a part of what you are. Is this you? No. It is not. Then what are you? You are something that you dont even know. You are the past, you are the present and you are the future. What you know is just the present. You are infinite. You are something that cannot be cut into different compartments. Because each action of yours is the reaction of something else.
Why do people change suddenly. Its not because they change, it is because something from the past, interferes with their present, shaping the future. So, its a continuous thing that cannot be divided. Another aspect is, your body gets burnt and turns into ashes but your soul leaves the body much before that. Soul cannot be burnt or the wind can dry it away from life. soul exists every where in metaphysical form and that is the secret of soul.
“SARVE JANA SUKHINO BHAVANTU
SARVE SANTU NIRAAMAYA
SARVE BHADRANI PASHYANTU

“MAY ALL BECOME HAPPY,
MAY ALL BE FREE FROM ILLNESS,
MAY ALL SEE WHAT IS AUSPICIOUS,
MAY NO ONE SUFFER”
