Chapter 2 Sloka 32 Bhagavadgita Meaning Translation and Interpretation

Chapter 2 Verse 32 – Samkhya Yoga

Sloka

Raagadwesha viyuktaistu vishayaanindriyaishcharan;
Aatmavashyair vidheyaatmaa prasaadamadhigacchati.

Translation

But the self-controlled man, moving amongst objects with the senses under restraint,
and free from attraction and repulsion, attains to peace.

Interpretation

In this verse Lord Krishna talks about a self controlled man and his vices. Lord Krishna says that only a person who is self controlled can attain peace. That attaining peace is process that starts with the person moving away from the objects. After moving away from the objects he needs to bring all the senses under his control. When senses are under his control he is neither pulled towards attraction or pulled away from repulsion and that person who is not affected by both can only attain peace.

Extending Interpretation to Mankind’s Life!

What is peace and what is peace of mind? It is a state of neutrality. You neither attract or repulse anything around you. You are in a steady state with all your senses under the control. Why do we search for peace of mind? Peace of mind is important because a mind which is peace can only make spiritual progress. Someone who is fighting his own mind battles can never solve the battles of others. Everyone in this world, whatever profession they are in, need peace of mind. That peace of mind can be achieved only when you leave things that take you away from your path and bring all the senses under your control.
