Chapter 2 Sloka 24 Bhagavadgita Sloka Meaning Translation and Interpretation

Chapter 2 Verse 24 – Samkhya Yoga

Sloka

Shrutivipratipannaa te yadaa sthaasyati nishchalaa;
Samaadhaavachalaa buddhistadaa yogam avaapsyasi.

Translation

When thy intellect, perplexed by what thou has heard, shall stand immovable and steady in the Self,
then thou shalt attain Self-realisation.

Interpretation

Moving from Yoga, Lord Krishna brings back the attention of Arjuna to one’s self. He says that when a person’s intellect stays still and unmoved by anything that he hears then that person attains the state of immovable self. A person in immovable self can easily attain self realisation. It is possible because when every thought of yours stands still and focuses only on one thing that leads to self realisation. Self realisation is a very important part of a person’s spiritual growth.

Extending interpretation to Mankind’s life!

How does one maintain steady and immovable in every situation? If he does so, what is the benefit of it? These are the two questions that comes to anyone’s mind when they read the shloka. Lets understand this by this small story. Once upon a time, there was a old lady. She used to go to forest every day and used to collect berries. A sage before dying told this old lady that one day Lord Rama will come to her and he likes berries a lot. So, for years her daily routine was to go to forest and collect the berries. So many years passed and Lord Rama never came. But her faith did not move an inch. She trusted the sage’s words and used to collect fresh berries everyday. Suddenly one day Lord Rama comes and tastes her berries. Her entire life’s purpose is achieved on that one day. That lady is Sabari and her story is narrated 3000 years after this incident has happened.

When you believe in something and when you start something, never give up, never leave the task in between. The benefit of it is it gives your self the immovability and the immovability alone can bring self realisation and that self realisation is the important path in spirituality towards moksha!
