Chapter 13 Kshetra-Kshetrajna Vibhaga Yoga Verse 4

Tat kshetram yaccha yaadrik cha yadvikaari yatashcha yat;
Sa cha yo yatprabhaavashcha tatsamaasena me shrinu.

What the Field is and of what nature, what its modifications are and whence it is,
and also who He is and what His powers are—hear all that from Me in brief.

Interpretation

This shloka has Lord Krishna talking more about the field and what He is going to explain. After saying what knowledge about field and the knower of the field has to be, Lord Krishna in this Shloka talks about few more aspects about the field. He says that He is going to tell Arjuna the composition of the field and also about the nature of the field. Lord also says that He will talk about the modifications that happen in the field from time to time and would also throw light upon when these modifications happen. Finally He also says that He is going to talk about the person who is in charge of these fields and the powers that He holds.

Extending Interpretation to Mankind’s Life!

In this shloka we come to know about few things by the kind of questions that Lord Krishna is asking. First we come to know that different fields have different nature when we listen to the sentence what field is of what nature and most importantly we also come to know of the modifications that are possible in the fields. From whatever information we have till now we know that fields in a set of living beings are fixed. But with  the statement of Lord Krishna we come to know that modifications are possible and it is the Lord who does them. All that increases our curiosity to know about the fields and Lord Krishna says that He is going to talk about all of them. Let’s see what He says.
