Chapter 11 Vishwaroopa Darshana Yoga Verse 5

Na tu maam shakyase drashtum anenaiva swachakshushaa;
Divyam dadaami te chakshuh pashya me yogamaishwaram.

But thou art not able to behold Me with these, thine own eyes;
I give thee the divine eye; behold My lordly Yoga.


Continuing His talk, Lord Krishna in this shloka talks about the sight needed to see the Cosmic form of Him. In yesterday’s shloka we have read about how it is difficult for a normal eye to see the cosmic form of Sri Maha Vishnu. Lord Krishna in this shloka makes this point very clear to Arjuna. He says that His divine form is of so many colours and shapes that the normal human eye is incapable of seeing it. So, Lord tells Arjuna that his eyes are not enough to see His cosmic form. So, He tells Arjuna that He will bestow him with divine eye and also tells him to hold the Lordly Yoga very tightly through the divine eye.

Extending Interpretation to Mankind’s Life!

When we see something, our sight is depending on what we are permitted to see. We also know that we cant see everything. If you use optical instruments like microscope, we can see micro organisms which otherwise are not visible. This proves beyond doubt that our eyes are not capable of seeing everything. God’s creation includes all those organisms which are visible and invisible to us. The reason why divya drishti is required for Arjuna is because Lord’s truest cosmic form includes all these visible and invisible forms. 
The other dimension of cosmic eye is the images that your soul and your subconscious mind can see. Apart from all the other organisms, there are images about humans also that our eyes cannot see. When you go to sleep, you get a dream that sometimes takes you to the past or future. But when you wake up, you only see the present. so, God’s cosmic form also includes things, situations and people present in the past as well as the future of an individual. We need a divine eye to see them and for that also Arjuna is bestowed with the divine eye.
