Mumbai, Delhi, RCB & SRH in the Playoffs… Who will be the Champion of IPL 2020 in UAE?

As I start writing this post, Sunrisers Hyderabad is well on course to win their 7th match and win it comfortably. This will mean SRH will enter the playoffs as 3rd placed team, thanks to their fantastic net run rate.

In my first post, I had predicted the 4 teams to qualify for playoffs. The good thing is all the four teams I have expected to make it to playoffs have made it.

  • Mumbai, as predicted, is finishing 1st
  • Sunrisers will qualify but finish as 3rd place, I predicted them to be 2nd
  • RCB will finish in 4th position against my prediction of 3rd place
  • Delhi Capitals are finishing 2nd as against 4th position

We have had an outstanding tournament to date. 56 matches have been played and never we have experienced this version of IPL. Highest run-getter KL Rahul isn’t going to be part of the playoffs as Kings XI Punjab failed to qualify. This after winning 5 matches on the trot. CSK came back strong in the last 4 matches. The team that was trolled for being ‘Dads Army’, saved their pride by winning last 4 matches and finishing at 7th position. Some superb performances have come as surprise and brought a ray of hope for last season. Gaikwad has played a gem of innings multiple times, MSD said ‘Definitely Not’ on asked if this is his last campaign. Raina is already prepping for next edition. All is well for CSK, but that’s for 2021!

We still have 4 matches to go and the value of these 4 matches is much bigger than the 56 matches. As we know, there will be the qualifier 1 between the 1st and 2nd placed teams. The loser plays qualifier 2 and winner goes straight to the final. 3rd and 4th placed teams will face in the eliminator. Winner will face the loser of qualifier 2 and loser will pack bags to home.

Who could win the IPL Championship Title 2020?

Qualifier 1 – Mumbai vs Delhi – A brilliant contest between best batting line up against the fiery bowling line up. Rohit is back in the squad and he is raring to score runs. He has to score runs not just to win it for Mumbai but also to prove that he is fit and fine to be selected for Australia series starting on November 27th. Ishan Kishan and De Cock are in their best T20 form. Hardik Pandya is waiting for big match day and Pollard is not ready to lose.

Delhi side is balanced in batting and bowling is crucial. South African duo, Rabada and Anrich Nortje are going to come to all guns blazing on the match day. Rabada is the highest wicket-taker and will want to get rid of the openers cheaply. Nortje will not like getting hit out of the park too. A scintillating match ahead for us.

Eliminator: A simple funda for this game. The best batting unit will win this game. The match is scheduled to happen in Abu Dhabi. 12 matches have been won by chasing team. RCB and SRH are both good at chasing. More than everything, the competition between Virat Kohli and David Warner is always at another level. There will be aggression and fire all through the game. The rivalry between these two teams is huge and both teams know it well.

My predictions:

Qualifier 1: Mumbai will win this game and I am hoping that it will not be an easy walk for them. Yes, they are losing their final match against the Sunrisers, but that doesn’t take away their strength and power in batting. Bumrah as usual will be the key player.

Mumbai – 65% and Delhi – 35%

Eliminator 1: This is going to be a more anticipated match then the qualifier 1 and I strongly feel it’s gonna be a tightly fought contest with a fantastic climax. As per me, Virat Kohli’s RCB is the team in pressure. Mumbai and RCB have ended league stage with a loss. Delhi and SRH have ended with excellent wins.

Mumbai can still accept loss as they will have 2nd chance if they lose the qualifier. But with RCB losing last 4 matches and no proper bowling, Virat is in deep trouble. Morris is injured and the batting isn’t great either. If Virat or ABD don’t stand up and perform then the match will end in a disaster. Anyways, I feel…

SRH 55% and RCB 45%.

Personally, I want RCB to enter Qualifier 2 and Play Delhi!!

Let’s see where all this goes…
